Rebecca Minkoff to Unveil Smart Bags for Spring

NEW YORK — Rebecca Minkoff, who last month revealed that the brand’s third see-now-buy-now show will be held in Los Angeles at The Grove on Feb. 4, is adding to her accessories category with a new series of 10 limited-edition handbags. But they’re not just any handbags.
Minkoff has partnered with Avery Dennison and Evrythng to infuse each style with smart technology. The studded top-handle bags, dubbed the #ALWAYSON Midnighter style, will each come with a hangtag that when scanned will unlock a ticket to Minkoff’s spring 2017 fashion show as well as other exclusive offers and experiences with the brand.
The 10 bags will be sold exclusively at Minkoff’s pop-up shop at The Grove, opening on Feb. 3 — the day before her show. They will retail for $295.
Each bag will automatically qualify the customer for a loyalty program, as well as access to e-commerce services, private styling sessions, style recommendations, video content and an invitation to Minkoff’s next fashion show.
In a telephone interview, chief executive officer Uri Minkoff — who noted that all of Rebecca Minkoff handbags will be equipped with smart technology as of summer 2017 — talked more about ways the company is exploring “the Internet of things.”

Delpozo to Open Flagship in Dubai

FROM SPAIN TO DUBAI: Delpozo is getting ready to bring its luxurious, feminine whimsy to Dubai with the opening of its third flagship — and its first in the Middle East.
The brand partnered with Alabbar Enterprises — parent company of Symphony, the luxury, multibrand concept store in Dubai — on the initiative.
The 1,479-square-foot space, housed on the ground floor of the new Fashion Avenue extension of the Dubai Mall, will house Delpozo’s prêt-à-couture, bridal, accessories and footwear collections. Drawing upon his background in architecture, creative director Josep Font will contribute to the store’s design, which will mimic the interiors of Delpozo’s other flagships, in Madrid and London.
The store is slated to open in September, timed to the release of the fall collection.

Hadid Family Members Alana, Mohamed Launch Eyewear Line

The Hadid family cannot be repressed.
Alana Hadid, the half-sister of Bella and Gigi Hadid, has teamed with her father Mohamed on a line of eyewear — aptly named Hadid Eyewear.
The line of sunglasses will be priced from $149 to $169, with travel-inspired style names like Passport Control and Frequent Flyer.
The six-style collection launches online today, at Hadideyewear.com, Shopbop and Revolve.
Alana Hadid said of the collection: “We both really love sunglasses — if you look at my father’s Instagram, he is wearing sunglasses in every photo. We both probably own 100-plus pairs. We are [pleased] to do something accessible to everyone. We wanted to keep [prices] at a point where if somewhere really loves them, they can buy them in all the colorways.”
An optical style, with clip-on sunglass attachments, will launch in March. Brick-and-mortar retail is being mulled for the future, but in the meantime, Alana feels the Internet is an apt retail outlet. “It gives a lot of people more access to buy all over U.S. and worldwide,” she said.
Five percent of all net sales will benefit the Vision of Children Foundation.
The elder Hadid sister keeps a low profile. Her Instagram following is by no means diminutive — 115,000 — but is relatively

Robert Geller Men’s Fall 2017

Robert Geller was torn between love and war for his fall collection.
The designer, who was celebrating his 10th anniversary, started to conceive this line six months ago during a particularly unstable time in Europe and the U.S., and this shone through in his use of heavy military references and neoprene ski masks that at times felt a little threatening.
“It’s about the need to protest, the need to protect but also have some hope,” he said.
That hopefulness was evident in logoed love messages on sweatpants and hooded sweatshirts. Other softer touches included flowy orange, blue or purple silk pants and pajama-like paisley shirts.
Napoleonic epaulets and an embroidered wool and metal stripe on military pants provided a dramatic touch.
After 10 years of creating directional men’s wear, Geller proved once again that he remains one of the highlights of men’s fashion week in New York.
