Victoria Justice, Lauren Conrad Turn Out for Rebecca Minkoff’s L.A. See-Now-Buy-Now Show, Day-Long Retail Experience

Sunshine, starlets, social media influencers, sales. All are key to what Los Angeles has to offer as an alternative fashion show locale.
Rebecca Minkoff took full advantage of these elements for her first L.A. (and third overall) see-now-buy-now fashion show on Saturday, racheting up the experiential consumer element by choosing to show at what is arguably the city’s most visible and buzzworthy retail center, The Grove.
While the runway show itself had similarities to the fall 2016 event she mounted in the middle of Manhattan’s Greene Street last September — 500 seated guests lining a public, cobblestone street while hundreds more looked on as social media influencers and models walked in new current-season outfits that were shoppable immediately afterward — the L.A. show was actually the finale to an entire day’s worth of events, from an outdoor yoga class to meet-and-greets with other celebrities, all of which were open to the public.

“This is by far our largest show we’ve ever done in terms of who we are expecting,” Minkoff said before the show. “We have 500 seats, but we’ve invited the entire world, basically. We have nine influencers walking the show, and they have invited all of their

First Lady Melania Trump Opts for Pink Dior at the Red Cross Ball

Penser pink! Penser Dior!
After making her inaugural wardrobe a celebration of American fashion, for Saturday night’s Red Cross Ball at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., First Lady Melania Trump wore a vibrant gown from Dior, finishing her look with emerald and diamond earrings and ring. The curvaceous yet unfettered gown played to Trump’s recent penchant for simple lines, while indicating her intention to continue to incorporate European clothes into her wardrobe as she did during the campaign. Conversely, the hot pink tone proved something of a departure for her, as recently Trump has favored neutral tones, particularly for evening. The inaugural ball gown she codesigned with Hervé Pierre was white, and the crystal-encrusted Reem Acra dress she wore to the Union Station dinner the night before the inauguration, muted gold. Trump did famously exhibit a penchant for color by day at the inauguration, when she wore a sky blue double-face cashmere coat and dress by Ralph Lauren.

Her sirenlike gown was leagues away from the drabber shades popular in 1881 when Clara Barton and a circle of friends founded the American Red Cross. FLOTUS’ color choice was similar to Pink Yarrow, one of Pantone’s Top 10 colors for women and men

Le Labo Heading to The Grove in L.A.

Smell Shopping: Le Labo is heightening its retail presence in Los Angeles. The Estée Lauder Cos.-owned fragrance brand is opening a store, its fifth in Southern California, inside popular shopping center The Grove in March. Le Labo has stretched to roughly 30 boutiques across the globe, according to its web site, and is available at Nordstrom, Barneys New York, Net-a-porter and Saks Fifth Avenue. Le Labo cofounders Fabrice Penot and Eddie Roschi opened the brand’s first store in 2006 in Manhattan’s NoLIta neighborhood, and Lauder acquired Le Labo eight years later. The brand’s product portfolio contains 15 fine fragrances, which come in various formats, including eau de parfums, body oils and lotions, solid perfumes, detergents and travel-friendly liquid balm rollerballs.
Along with Jo Malone, Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle and Tom Ford, Le Labo contributed to fragrance being Lauder’s fastest-growing category for the company’s second fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31. During an earnings conference call, Fabrizio Freda, president and chief executive officer of Lauder, revealed high-end fragrances registered growth of nearly 30 percent during the quarter. “These luxury fragrance brands were primarily powered by strong new fragrance launches and social media,” he detailed. In its 2016 annual report, Lauder projected its luxury

Ivanka Trump Executive Strikes Back, Claiming Expansion Continues Across Categories and Distribution

WILL THE OTHER SHOE DROP?: Is Neiman Marcus cutting ties with the Ivanka Trump company to stop selling its jewelry?
That possibility was hashed out and (asserted by some) web sites Friday after noting that Ivanka Trump fine jewelry was no longer available on Neiman Marcus’ web site. But the retailer presented a different picture.
A Neiman Marcus spokeswoman said Friday, “Neiman Marcus has a very small Ivanka Trump precious jewelry business, which is comprised 100 percent of consigned merchandise (merchandise owned by the vendor). Based on productivity, we continuously assess whether our brands are carried in stores, on our web site, or both.”
Executives at Neiman Marcus did not respond to requests for comment about whether that arrangement will continue for fall. Unlike the Ivanka Trump clothing and accessories that are sold in department stores and specialty stores and are geared for working women, the label’s fine jewelry is more expensive and is not sold in mass stores.
Meanwhile, executives at Ivanka Trump have broken their silence about the state of the business, after a few weeks of declining to comment. Rosemary K. Young, senior director of marketing at Ivanka Trump, said in a statement Friday, “The Ivanka Trump brand continues to expand across
